Tobacco Retail License and Point of Sale: Limiting Youth Access to Tobacco Products Wednesday Feb 17, 2021; 10:00 AM Eastern Time
This webinar will examine how Florida counties can enact local Tobacco Retail Licenses (TRL) to counteract and/or restrict the Point of Sale (POS) marketing tactics that encourage youth tobacco use and addiction. These restrictions can include plug-ins that address retailer density, minimum pack size for cigars, drug paraphernalia restrictions, vendor-assisted product placement, tobacco sales in pharmacies, and Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS).
Local TRLs give counties and municipalities more control over how tobacco and nicotine products are sold and also ensures compliance checks on age of sale and placement of tobacco/ENDS products. As a result, youth access and exposure to tobacco and nicotine products at the retail point of sale (POS) will decrease – successfully counteracting the health equity and social justice issues exacerbated by the tobacco industry’s POS marketing tactics.
